Thinking of taking up adventure racing? Not sure if you can do it? Believe it or not, you fit the profile of an adventure racer - yes you do! Here are six reasons to choose Gaelforce West as your first adventure race.
1. Gaelforce West is tough but achievable for first timers - you’ll need to have a good level of fitness and you’ll need to train to take part, but the sense of achievement when you cross that finish line will be second to none! Yes, it’s a challenge but achievable, especially if you start training right now, today. Download our Gaelforce West Training Plan to get you started, follow us on Instagram & Facebook for lots of great tips, info & inspo, and you can email us with any queries or for advice on your preparations.
2. There are three different disciplines – running, kayaking and cycling, so you won’t get bored, and though one discipline might not be your strength another could very well be. And changing from running to kayaking to biking breaks up the route and gives a great boost to the spirit.
3. The route itself is spectacular - endless views of the mountains and coast of Connemara are enough to take your mind off what your body might be feeling and give you a real sense of being at one with the elements around you. You will love it!.
4. There are usually lots of first timers taking part - you won’t be the only one! Though there are elite competitors, they are never intimidating because before you know it, they are off and long gone! So, you can focus on getting through at your own pace, enjoying the experience and of course, doing your best.
5. There will be lots of support on the day - the camaraderie and the feeling that you are all in this together is always very encouraging. Say hi to the nearest competitor to you and you never know, they might be just as happy to have a chat and keep you company as you make your way along. We’ll be here to cheer you on along the route and family & friends can come along to celebrate with you at the finish line. If you need any more convincing, take a look at our Gaelforce West gallery.
6. You’re doing something amazing for yourself - maybe you’re raising some money for a cause close to your heart, maybe it’s a marker in your journey to fitness or feeling good again after illness or setbacks, maybe it’s just for the pure joy of crossing the finish line, whatever it is, it’s an amazing feeling!
