Why do I need a tow float and how can I get one?

ALL competitors in ALL distances of the Great River Swim must wear a tow float for their own safety. No competitor will be allowed in the water without a tow float.
You can order a tow float to rent or buy when you sign up for this event, or you can bring your own.

What type of wetsuit should I wear?

We recommend that you wear a well-fitting wetsuit, such as those designed for triathlons, which are usually made from a flexible neoprene that allows you to swim normally whilst helping to insulate the body against the cold water.

The most important thing, whatever type of wetsuit you decide to wear – surfing, shortie or swimming – is that fits well. It should be snug when you put it on, so the water is trapped next to your body to warm you up. If it is loose fitting, water will flow through it, preventing you from warming up and it could restrict your swimming. We recommend that you try your wetsuit out before event day, even if this is in a swimming pool.
