The route

Stage 1: Belmont Demesne, purpose-built trail, heather paths

Start at the historic Belmont Estate and head up towards the back of little Sugar Loaf mountain - a climb of about 180 metres over 2km. Enjoy the stunning and dramatic views across the Wicklow hills and out to the Irish Sea.

Stage 2: Trail

Start your descent and wind your way back through heather paths, trails and ancient woodland to return to Belmont Demesne and cross the finish line.

Route Terrain

The route varies from sealed roads, wet bog, forest trails and gravel paths. Expect the unexpected!

Bring your crew along!

The start and finish line are located at Belmont Demesne. There are excellent facilities here – ample car parking, a café, fabulous grounds and lots for spectators to do while they wait for you to cross the finish line.

It’s an afternoon event, so no early starts required. All in all, a great summer day out for everyone!

A Theme with Meaning: The Big Bad Wolf in 2025

Each year, we choose a theme that runs through our Gaelforce 10K Trilogy - something that connects us to the land, the legends, and the stories worth telling.

In 2025, that theme was the wolf. Not the “big bad” kind, the real kind. Wolves were once native to Ireland, known as Mac Tíre, meaning “son of the land.” They were respected, even revered. That changed during Cromwell’s time, when a bounty was placed on their heads. Within decades, they were gone.

Our 2025 event proudly partnered with Wild Ireland in Donegal - a sanctuary that provides a safe, natural habitat where wolves live in family packs. Visit the sanctuary to see their amazing work. Donations are always welcome to help keep it going!

Looking Ahead to 2026: We’re always up for working with people and organisations who share our spirit - outdoors, honest, and rooted in something real. If you’d like to be part of the 2026 theme or collaborate with us, get in touch at info@gaelforceevents.com.
