6. Is there a cut-off time? in Events
There is no cut off time for this event. The course will be closed 2 hours 30 minutes after the last wave departs.
You may still finish the race after the course has been closed, but please note you will not be covered by Gaelforce Events insurance and some event facilities may be closed.
6. Is Turf Warrior suitable for groups? in Events
Turf Warrior is ideal for groups of work colleagues, sports teams, stags & hens, extended families, best friends, anyone you can muster together and who is up for some serious craic. There are discounted entry prices for groups of 10+.
6. What level of swimming ability should I have? in Events
You must be able to swim 2km or 3.9km confidently before taking part in the longer distance events. If you cannot do this, or if this is your first open water swimming event, we recommend the 750m/800m event as a great starting point.
We recommend that competitors in all distances have some open water swimming experience.
If you are planning to swim in skins, you must have trained in similar cold water temperatures for similar lengths of time as your chosen distance, with no adverse effect.
6. What type of bike & bike tyres should I use? in Events
Gaelforce Events does NOT operate any bike hire for this event. You must bring your own bike.
This event now takes place on all sealed roads (there is no off road section, only 8km on a small country road), so a road bike or hybrid bike is best.
Only one bike can be used by each competitor. Changing bikes during the event is not allowed. Aerobars are not allowed and must be taken off for the event.
The key element for most participants using road bikes (racers) is tyre pressure - pressure should be between 110-120psi. Check the side wall of the tyre to make sure it can take that much pressure. For those using Hybrid Bikes, tyre pressure should be approximately 70psi or more. Not pumping tyres hard enough is a common mistake.
We would recommend Continental Gator Skins followed by Specialised Armadillos. A cheaper option is Rubines. Make sure you also know how to change a tyre and have a bike repair kit and spare tubes with you.
