While we hope that Croagh Patrick will be back for Gaelforce West 2022, we have a stunning alternative route available. Full details of the final route will be posted here and emailed to all registered competitors 2 weeks before the event date.
STAGE 1: 13.5KM | RUN | BEACH, TRAIL & ROAD
The race starts at Glasilaun beach and continues by road around Little Killary Harbour, over the hillside to Killary Fjord and along the old Famine greenway (muddy and uneven underfoot) to the kayak transition area on the shore below Killary Adventure Centre.
STAGE 2: 1KM | KAYAK | KILLARY FJORD
1km kayak from the southern shore of Killary Fjord on a shared two-person sit-on-top kayak.
STAGE 3: 1KM | RUN | TRAIL & ROAD
Short 1km run to the bike transition area located at Killary Adventure Centre.
STAGE 4: 35KM | CYCLE | SEALED ROADS
Cycle south following the Wild Atlantic Way route towards Tullycross, with spectacular views over the islands and Atlantic Ocean. Rejoin the N59 at Letterfrack, passing Kylemore Abbey and the 12 Ben Mountains, back to the bike transition area at Killary Adventure Centre.
STAGE 5: 3KM | RUN/WALK | TRAIL
Run across the Connemara bog to meet the Western Way walking trail and a downhill run towards Leenane.
STAGE 6: 7KM | RUN/WALK | MOUNTAIN
The final push to conquer the mountain! There is no trail, just open mountain and an ascent of 450m to the top. The expanse of the Killary Fjord and Mweelrea mountain spreads out in front of you as you descend to cross the finish line of Gaelforce West.
