STAGE 1: CYCLE (3KM) *NEW 2017
Starting at An Tochar GAA Club in Roundwood this year you will head out the main entrance turning right on to the R755. You will remain on the R755 up through Roundwood village. You must then turn right on to the R765 and proceed over the bridge. You will stay on this road until you reach the transition area at the Upper Dam on the Upper Reservoir bringing you to your run stage. You will transit some stunning views of the reservoir on this first cycle.
You must be aware of the rules of the road at all times.
STAGE 2: RUN (LESS THAN 10KM!)
The run begins at the bike transition. It then continues south along the path to Waters Bridge. You will then join the path around the Lower Reservoir making your way in a loop back to Waters Bridge and back to the Upper Reservoir where the kayaking will take place. The lakeside paths (the majority of the run) are flanked by trees and the terrain consists of woodland trails but they are rough in places and watch out for brambles. The run is quite flat and very pretty with fantastic views across the water in all directions.
STAGE 3: KAYAK (0.5KM)
The kayaks will be 2 person sit-on-tops so grab a partner (the next competitor to you if racing alone) and take to the water. You will kayak approximately 0.5km in a looped course in the Upper Reservoir.
STAGE 4: CYCLE (11KM) *NEW 2017
The second cycle follows the roads outside the reservoir. You will exit the bike transition area and turn left on to the R765. You will remain on this road for approx 3km before turning a sharp right down a back road. You will stay on this road for approx 3.5km. It then joins the R764 where you will turn right up. Stay on the R764 for approx 4km. You will come back up to the R755. Turn left here and continue back to the GAA club - approx 0.5km. The cycle is mostly along quiet country roads and has a slight elevation. For information on what bike to use read our FAQ section.
STAGE 5: RUN
Competitors will run the last short stretch from the bike drop to the finish line in at An Tochar GAA Club.
ADVENTURE DUATHLON - 24KM
The course is the same as above, just without the kayak section.
