Gaelforce Great Fjord Swim Covid 19 UPDATE

After very serious consideration we are now confident we can run Gaelforce Great Fjord Swim on the 26th September whilst still clearly adhering to all government regulations in relation to sporting events. 

Summary points read below for details: Please forgive us for the regimented and perhaps unfriendly nature of the instructions, this is so we can return to racing in a safe manner. 

  1. POSTAL REGISTRATION

    • Our event day registration will now all be postal. We will send out your race pack on Thursday, the 17th of September 2020. You need to bring the contents of the envelope with you on race day.

  2. COVID 19

    • This is not a social event, your car is your base. No Loitering allowed.

  3. RACE LOGISTICS

    • Please read and understand your timings BEFORE you arrive.

    • KNOW YOUR WAVE, KNOW YOUR START TIME

    • Finish line is a collection point only.

  4. NO SPECTATORS ALLOWED

    • There are absolutely no spectators allowed at this event. If you cannot show a swim hat with race number you will not be allowed enter the grounds. Please do not let you family or friends turn up as they will be turned away.

  5. COVID SYMPTOMS

    • Do not attend this event if you feel sick in any way. Do not attend if you or anyone in your household have been told to self isolate or are awaiting a covid test or test results. Do not attend if you have traveled outside of the country within the last 14 days.

  6. ARRIVAL ON EVENT DAY

    • Please allow 15 mins to park.

    • Arrive to Killary/Leenane ready. This means that you are ready to get changed into your wetsuit at your car. You should already have your finish line bag packed with baggage tag attached. If a you are availing of the car key drop bring an envelope with your name/race #  on it.

  7. PARKING

    • 3.9km & 750km competitors: Arrive 75 mins before your start time at Killary Adventure Centre. PLEASE NOTE: This is 15 mins earlier changed from time noted on A5 flyer.

    • 2km: Arrive 90 mins before your start time at Leenane village. PLEASE NOTE: This is 15 mins earlier changed from time noted on A5 flyer.

  8. FACE MASKS

    • Competitors MUST WEAR A FACE MASK AT ALL TIMES. It will be taken off at start line at which point you will put it into your finish line bag. It needs to be put back on when you collect your bag in the changing tents after finishing the race.

  9. TOW FLOATS

    • If you are renting a tow float from us you need to bring €20 cash as a deposit to the tow float collection point.

  10. NO BOATS 2020

    • There are no boats to the start line, for any distance, for the 2020 swim event. 

 

OTHER POINTS TO NOTE:

 

  • All volunteers and marshals will be wearing face masks.

  • Our start line will consist of small waves of no more than 50 people, this will ensure that 2 metre of social distancing is possible.

  • Our finish line will be in constant motion, so it will not be an area to congregate.

  • There will be a 2 metre queuing system and refreshments will be given individually to each competitor and they will then be asked to move on.

  • However please note that all competitors must take personal responsibility for their safety and the safety of other.

    • Anyone symptomatic must not attend the event.

    • Hand washing and social distancing must be practiced and maintained by all at all times.
